As we shift into the Top 65, more and more often Tragically Hip fans will find songs that they feel should be higher, or would be higher on their own list. But it ain’t easy, and as you listen to the songs ranked above ‘that song’, you’ll often concede that yeah – perhaps it’s in the right spot after all. Or maybe not…
65 Put It Off – 1996
Simple. Mellow. And really catchy with a nice build-up.
64 Daredevil – 1994
63 So Hard Done By – 1994
62 An Inch an Hour – 1994
61 700 ft. Ceiling – 1996
60 It Can’t Be Nashville Every Night – 2004
59 Killing Time – 1987
58 Vaccination Scar – 2004
57 Lake Fever – 2000
56 In View – 2006
55 Lionized – 1993
54 My Music at Work – 2000
A pretty good song, but I may be a little hard on it because it represents, to me, the turning point of The Tragically Hip. This was the first album from the band that wasn’t great, as you can see by the fact that this song, the title track, is the highest ranked song here. And it didn’t even crack my Top 50.
53 Nautical Disaster – 1994
52 Looking For a Place To Happen – 1993
51 Yer Not the Ocean – 2006
50 Not Necessary – 2021
Probably the Hip’s best song on their Saskadelphia EP. Into the Top 50 now, and these songs are getting π₯π₯π₯
49 Small Town Bringdown – 1987
48 Bobcaygeon – 1998
Probably the song ranking that garners the most disagreement, Bobcaygeon is beloved by most Hip fans. In fact, I know a few who would place this at No.1, but certainly thousands of them would have this song in their Top 10. I’m just not one of them. It’s a good song certainly worthy of Top 50, but never understood how it has become one of the most played Hip songs on rock stations even to this day.
47 Twist My Arm – 1991
It was at this point on the list where I’d listen to a song and think “wow, I gotta move this song higher”. But then I look at the songs ahead and find myself unable to move it up even a single notch.
46 Fully Completely – 1993
45 Greasy Jungle – 1994
44 Gift Shop – 1996
43 I’ll Believe in You (Or I’ll Be Leaving You) – 1989
42 She Didn’t Know – 1989
41 Everytime You Go – 1989
On the next page, I count down 40 through 16 of the best Tragically Hip songs of all time…
